A fundraising campaign has been launched to help make the beach at Sidmouth more accessible to visitors using mobility aids or pushchairs.
The Chit Rocks Beach project aims to install an access ramp at the Chit Rocks area of the beach, located between Jacobs’ Ladder and the Esplanade. The ramp would be a permanent fixture and will allow visitors to get right down to the seafront.
Speaking about the project, materials released by the organisers said: “Imagine being unable to feel the sand, play on the beach and swim in the sea. Chit Rocks Beach Ramp' project is in place to allow access for all onto our wonderful sandy beach and natural rock pools.
"Access for all should be in place everywhere around the town including our beautiful sandy beach.
"Our project will help make that happen for Sidmouth. The project aims to fundraise, design and build a permanent ramped access onto the beach near the steps at Chit Rock."
Access onto the sand for parents, grandparents, people with a disability or the frail elderly is very difficult at the moment.

The fundraiser began on 19 June 2024 by Jess Morris and other residents and businesses were quick to support it. As from today (October 10) it has raised £215, with a target of £100,000.
Support from local organisations and residents has continued to grow over the summer and Sid Vale Folk donated £150 to the project after the event.
