The former shop at 1 Broad Street could be converted into a two-storey house, if plans are approved by East Devon District Council.

Document 24/1817/FUL asks for permission for a 'proposed' part change of use from ground floor commercial shop and ground and first floor offices to a two storey residential dwelling; remaining ground floor space to be retained as a commercial shop.

The application involves the part conversion of the commercial shop / offices into a two storey house. The downstairs retail space used to be occupied by Ashley Crane.

The retail and office space downstairs will be kept, but part of it turned into a living and kitchen space for the house, with bedrooms upstairs.

Upstairs will have one bedroom, a study, storage and a bathroom. Enough space for a two-person house.

The application says "The plans has been sympathetically developed to ensure that no new openings or major changes to the external appearance are proposed. All existing window and door openings are to be retained, with new fenestration proposed which will be subject to conservation officer approval. The retention of the existing ground floor commercial shop maintains the use within the existing shop front and feature bay window. The proposed change of use is concentrated within the part of the building which does not exhibit any shop front or display area."

You can view and comment on the plans on the East Devon District Council planning portal. The plans will be reviewed by planning officers before a decision is made to approve or refuse them.
