Parkside care home recently hosted a garden party, celebrating the unveiling of their newly refurbished garden.
Named ‘The Cowshed’ its a new area for the home to host parties and activities for its residents. Deputy Lieutenant John Wood joined as a special guest to mark the occasion, cutting the ribbon and giving a short speech to residents and colleagues at Parkside care home.
The garden party was well attended by family and friends of residents and colleagues, neighbouring Exemplar Health Care homes, and local community members.
The festivities commenced at noon with a BBQ, entertainment, games and raffles. Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch and BBQ before the arrival of John Wood DL. The Deputy Lieutenant officially opened The Cowshed and presented long service awards to team members.
The visit was particularly significant for many residents at Parkside care home, who have made writing meaningful letters to the royal family a long-standing tradition.
Deputy Lieutenant John Wood said: "It was a privilege to attend the garden party at Parkside care home and see first-hand the wonderful community spirit that flourishes here. Events like this are crucial as they bring together residents, families, colleagues, and the wider community, creating a sense of belonging and celebration.
“I'm honoured to have been part of this special occasion, celebrating the wonderful work being done at Parkside and the positive impact it has on the lives of those who live here."
The entertainment line-up included a performance by local singer Hells Bell, before a surprise visit from four alpacas, organised by home manager Catherine Sandy. The event also featured a raffle and tombola, with proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Society, alongside other games and activities designed and selected by the residents themselves.
The residents' involvement extended beyond planning; they played an active role throughout the day at the stalls, assisted by supportive colleagues.
Catherine Sandy, Home Manager at Parkside care home said: “It was a wonderful day. We were thrilled to meet the Deputy Lieutenant and show him our garden and the new facilities, which so much hard work has been poured into. The entire experience was so fun, and I was so happy to see everyone enjoy our new space."
