Sidmouth Voluntary Services (SVS) is looking for volunteers to tackle loneliness in the Sid Valley.
Offering a nutrition-packed lunch, medical appointments, grocery store trips and sociable day trips, the charity is easing the isolation often endured by elderly residents.
Operating from its base at Twyford House on Coburg Road, the Lunch Club provides a hearty three-course meal Monday through Friday.
Customers can meet with peers and, for a small additional charge, a round-trip minibus can transport clients to and from the location.
In situations where attendees can’t travel, SVS volunteers use their personal vehicles to deliver hot meals to clients' homes.
Beyond catering, the charity also plans amicable outings to areas including Bicton Park, Seaton, and Bridport via their minibuses.
It runs weekly shopping buses to supermarkets and a medical car service, where volunteer drivers transport clients to medical appointments.
While SVS employs a handful of paid staff, their services are inaccessible without the aid of the volunteers.
Volunteers have the freedom to choose their preferred role -from driving or assisting on the minibus, delivering lunches, taking clients to medical appointments or lending a hand in the dining room at the Lunch Club.
Their volunteering hours remain flexible, ranging from a single hour every month to a weekly session of about four hours.
SVS encourages all interested volunteers to call 01395 515063 or email volunteers@sidmouthvs.org.uk for more information about the broad range of services they provide.
