Sidmouth Hospice at Home has launched its first coffee morning campaign.

The campaign aims to unite the community in cake-filled gatherings throughout September.

People are encouraged to host bake sales, have coffee mornings at home, organise cake breaks in the office, or simply meet a friend for tea and cake.

Fundraising manager, Sharon Coombes, said: "We have always wanted to set up our own coffee morning campaign, as community-wide events like this allow our patients and their family members to see that they are on the minds of their fellow residents.

"It reassures them that the charity, our specialist nurses and 24-hour service continue to be supported.

"If that can happen in a fun way, with cake included, even better."

She added that the ‘Sidmouth model’ of hospice care is widely considered to be innovative and exemplary.

Ms Coombes said: "Our community deserves to be proud of the way it supports those living with life-limiting illness through our service, not least because we rely entirely on donations to fund our care.

"Unlike the vast majority of our counterpart hospice services, we receive no additional funding to meet our costs, which represent excellent value but will be more than £890,000 in the coming year.

"The fact that we are funded by the community, for the community, makes Sidmouth and Sid Valley a very special place."

To host a coffee morning, contact Sidmouth Hospice at Home on 01395 578707, email info@sidmouthhospiceathome.org.uk, visit their website or find the charity on Facebook (sidmouthhospiceathome).

This initiative is a fun way for the community to show their support for Sidmouth Hospice at Home and the vital service they provide.
