Artwork depicting a familiar local scene is the latest exhibit on the Sidmouth Wallspace billboard.

'View from Peak Hill' is an oil painting by local artist Victoria  Goodman.

It has been installed just in time for Sidmouth Folk Festival which begins on Friday, August 2. Sidmouth School of Art and its partners have been working hard to make sure their flags, phone box 'museums' and other public art displays are looking good for the thousands of visitors to the town during festival week.

Victoria grew up in the West Country, enjoying a rural childhood. She returned to Devon after studying in London, graduating with a BA in Design and an MA in Applied Art & Visual Culture.

She says the Jurassic coastline with its distinctive landscapes and seascapes, along with the ever-changing weather, light and seasons, provide an abundance of material for her to develop her interpretations of the shape and forms she sees.

Living and working in the Devon countryside influences her work, which reflects her close relationship with nature and the landscape. This, combined with her design background results in paintings with strong vivid colours and patterns.

David Shrigley, Sidmouth School of Art Trustee, said: “We are really pleased to be showing Victoria’s work on Sidmouth Wallspace. It’s an amazing platform. Nurturing local creative talent and access to art for everyone is central to SSA, all of which is a pathway to wellbeing.”
