Sidmouth has been ranked among the most Instagrammed countryside spots in Devon according to new figures.

Research from Cotswold Outdoor found Devon to be the most Instagrammed county in the UK overall, with Sidmouth featuring in the top 10 countryside locations where its name was mentioned in a hashtag on the site.

Speaking about the reason for the research, they said: "In 2024, most of us fuss over taking the perfect "Instagram shot" to upload online, so Cotswold Outdoor set out to unveil which locations in the UK we're snapping pictures of the most.

"Their new study highlights the UK's Most Instagrammable Countryside Locations, and encourages Brits and tourists alike to visit the UK's more rural destinations instead just exploring cities which tend to get more mainstream recognition."

Cotswold Outdoor added: "Smaller towns and sites in the UK receive nowhere near as much financial investment as larger cities do.

"The local businesses in those areas like the ones in Salcombe rely greatly on tourists and visitors driving through them in order to thrive, so it’s really important that as a nation we highlight the beauty and significance of our lesser known destinations too.”

Sidmouth is described as a "seaside town like no other" on its Visit Devon page, with it having an "impressive coastline" as well as being surrounded by "spectacular countryside".

It adds: "The dramatic cliffs, fresh sea air and the abundance of attractions makes it a wonderful place to recharge the batteries.

"It’s the kind of town where you can do everything or nothing at all, you can make a splash by taking on some watersports, savour a cream tea or two at one of the town’s many hotels and cafes, spend some time exploring the South West Coast Path or discover a new passion at one Sidmouth’s regular festivals."

With all that scenery to take in it is perhaps not too much of a surprise that the town has featured in plenty of posts on Instagram.
