Dog owners are invited to bring their pets to a special event at Coldharbour Field Kitchen to raise money for Dachshund Rescue.
Coldharbour’s owners Beth Ashfield and Andrea Broadhurst both have dachshunds – also known as ‘sausage dogs’.
Beth’s daughter Kitty volunteers for DMT Dachshund Rescue, which rescues the dogs from the meat trade in Asia and transports them to new homes in the UK.
On August 4 Coldharbour Field Kitchen is hosting ‘Sausage Sunday’ to support the charity.
Beth said: “Small dogs have become increasingly popular in countries like China, and many breeding facilities have been set up. Sadly, once the dogs are unable to breed, they are sold into the meat trade. So we’re raising funds to help them rescue and care for more dogs.
“While we adore sausage dogs, you don’t have to own a dachshund to join in the fun - all breeds are invited!”
On ‘Sausage Sunday’ dog owners will be able to buy their pets a ‘puppachino’, an ice cream or a Coldharbour pork sausage. The normal ‘human’ menu will be available all day, with wood-fired pizzas from 1pm until 8pm.
Fundraising will be through a raffle and collecting tin, and Kitty will be on hand to sell DMT merchandise including bandanas, dog tags and pin badges.
Sausage Sunday is from 3pm until 5pm at Coldharbour Field Kitchen, Slade Road, Ottery St Mary.
