An independent music fair will take place at the Masonic Hall during Sidmouth Folk Festival, starting on Friday, August 2.
This event, featuring specialist musical instrument makers and repairers, has been taking place during the festival for more than 20 years.
Glen Titmus is a repairer and bow-maker. He has become well-known for selling second-hand violins and bows at very reasonable prices. A selection of these will be on show this year, along with his hand-made bows in both modern and baroque styles. As always, he will be providing an on-site service rehairing bows and doing minor repairs.
Pete Grassby is known for his stock of old and sometimes rare Hohner melodeons. He will also have accordions, concertinas, whistles, percussion and other instruments, along with a selection of music books. As usual, he will be providing an on-site repair service.
Graham Vincent has attended for the last two years. He is a full time violin maker and musician whose instruments are played around the world. He makes violins by hand using traditional techniques. Many of his violins are built using reclaimed materials and indigenous timbers..
Emma Hardy Violins is attending for the first time. Emma makes violins and violas from her workshop in Sheffield. She is currently experimenting with using locally sourced woods and unusual shapes for her instruments.
Sadly, The Whole Wide World record stall will not be attending this year. Dave Longly hopes to be back next year.
The music fair will be open from 9.30am until 7pm from Friday, August 2 until Thursday 8, and 9.30am to 4pm on Friday, August 9.
