Around 40 Sidmouth residents came out to show their support for the Chit Rocks Beach Access Project last Sunday, July 7.

The steering group behind the beach ramp project are holding weekly Q&A sessions at the site until September to raise awareness and collect donations towards the £250,000 needed to fund the project. Last weekend more than £212 was donated.

One local resident who attended last Sunday said: “I have lived in Sidmouth all my life and due to being in a wheelchair, I have never been able to access the sand and rock pools - thank you for this initiative.”

Another said she hoped the project would enable her to ‘share time with my young grandchildren on the sand’.

The cost of the project may be high, due to the complexities of building the ramp across the rocks, but the steering committee say they are ‘determined to raise the money for this ramp and will not stop until it is built’.

As part of the fundraising a prize draw is being held to win two tickets for the headline acts at this year’s Sidmouth Folk Festival.

Raffle tickets are now available to buy from Sidmouth Trawlers (Tuesday to Saturday, 9am until 4pm) or from members of the project’s steering group, whose contact details are on the group’s Facebook page.
