Noel Coward’s delightful confection Hayfever will be opening at the Manor Pavilion on Monday 1st July, the second play of the Summer Play Festival.
This gloriously entertaining comedy of bad manners is directed by Jason Moore, back for his third season having previously worked on The Unexpected Guest and Pack of Lies. Jason will also be directing Deathtrap in the second half of the Season. He is excited to be back and said: “The Sidmouth audience is a vital part of the season and its always a joy to see familiar faces each year who come and support the festival.”
In the play, Judith and David Bliss plan a quiet weekend in the country, which swiftly develops into a houseful of drama as their children and unanticipated guests join them, and misunderstandings and tempers flare.
Polly Smith, returning to the Manor Pavilion, will be playing grand dame, Judith Bliss. Polly said: “I am thrilled to be playing Judith Bliss. I love that she is an actress who embodies the bygone glamorous world of theatre. What a treat to be able to recapture that world today, in the Sidmouth Summer Play Season.
"I'm daunted, of course, but as someone whose first love was theatre, I think it's just magic to have this opportunity to work every day with talented people in this show, which is loved by so many.”
