The 2024 Ottery St Mary Primary School Hill Climb has proved to be a great success this year.
The annual John Campion Junior Hill Climb, held on a warm Wednesday afternoon, saw the school's motto 'Push yourself and have a go' brought to life in memory of the late John Campion, who inspired children to cycle.
School children, parents, and teachers witnessed the test of perseverance and skill accompanying the 30-second challenge, according to the honorary starter, Mr Pike.
Five-year-old Randall was the first to tackle the gruelling slope setting an impressive time of 45.30 seconds.
Pupil Albert G recorded the best early time of 25.45 seconds, establishing himself as a rising star.
Girl-power was at speed with Nelly setting the best female time of 31 seconds.
Brother rivalry launched onto the track with Sam C and Ben C dipping below 25 seconds.
Henry T claimed the year's best time, a swift 22.40 seconds.
The school community cheered as each young cyclist reached the summit.
Notable thanks went to Dennis, Jim, Lewis, and Tom for their continued help; Sarah Pearman for support; Paul Hook, from the Royal York and Faulkner Hotel, for sponsorship, and Dave Goldthorpe for his superior event organisation.
