On Monday (May 20), Ottery Fire Station visited Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue crews at Exmouth to train for a missing persons and house fire exercise.
Exmouth Fire Station simulated a breathing apparatus scenario that involved a fire in a property with three persons unaccounted for.
Ottery Fire Station explained how they went about rescuing the people, and fighting the fire: "We deployed under rapid deployment procedures which means we operated with a minimum number of crew, which is four to add a level of pressure to the scenario.
"The building was filled with synthetic smoke to replicate the visibility conditions of a real fire. This was a good training opportunity to sharpen our work with breathing appartus and Incident Command Skills. We then ended with some other training utilising a battery operated fan to clear the building of smoke."
