An 84-year old Sidmouth care home resident has abseiled down the side of Exeter Cathedral to raise money towards its new gallery.
Ann Capon descended the 43-metre North Tower on Saturday, May 4 with a group of other fundraisers.
Ann hoped to raise £500 from sponsorship, but has received more than £1,100 in donations pledged via JustGiving for her brave stunt.
On her JustGiving page she said: "The only abseil I have done was around 35 years ago and only off of a small rock. Rather different than the top of the North Tower. I did a roof tour many years ago and the tower is very high, but has amazing views. Probably need to concentrate on the views rather than going over the edge!"
The Exeter Cathedral Abseiling Challenge was organised to raise money towards the construction of the Cloister gallery, which will connect the cathedral with the 13th-century Chapter House and Pearson Building. It will be used to host events and community gatherings.
Ann has lived at Abbeyfield Culver House in Sidmouth for two and a half years, and staff there say they are very proud of her for completing the abseil. Ann would like to thank everyone for all the support she has received.
