A proposed 20mph speed limit in Ottery St Mary town centre and the surrounding roads has moved a step closer.
Devon County Council has opened a public consultation on the proposal which runs until Wednesday, April 24.
Local residents are being urged to submit comments in favour of the scheme, which is supported by Ottery Town Council and the county councillor for the Otter Valley, Jess Bailey.
Cllr Bailey said: "Communities across Devon are crying out for 20mph schemes and DCC's programme is massively oversubscribed. Ottery is one of only a handful of communities across all of Devon that have been selected and has moved to the consultation stage."
Full details of the roads where the speed limit would be introduced can be found on Devon County Council's website, along with the online consultation form.
The county council said: "It is proposed to introduce 20mph speed restriction on several roads in Ottery St Mary with the intention that it will lead to a reduced likelihood of collisions and an improvement of local amenities."
The proposal also includes extending the existing 30mph limit beyond the car park to Otter Garden Centre to improve the safety for vehicles accessing this car park and pedestrians who walk along this length of road.
