Elderly Sidmouth residents got the chance to put on their dancing shoes at an event organised by the Rotary Club on Thursday, February 29.
A Tea Dance was held at the Conservative Club as a follow-up to the club's Christmas appeal in which hampers were given out to families and elderly people in the area. All those who received a hamper were invited to attend, along with others who came along to socialise and enjoy a cream tea. The event was compered by the East Devon MP Simon Jupp with the help of Simon Card.
Vic Clarke, President of Sidmouth Rotary, said: “I am delighted to say that our first Tea Dance was a success and we hope to make it an annual event. I would like to thank fellow Rotarians, especially Mike and Karen Goodman, as well as the team at the Conservative Club for organising the dance. It was great to see so many of our senior citizens having a good time.”
One person told the organisers: “My Mum, who is 94, had a ball! She's not steady enough on her feet to manage on her own and she so rarely has the opportunity to shake a leg. And she loves to dance ... So this was a real joy for her. I could see it in her face when we were on the dancefloor. And it was a special time for me too!”
