The Donkey Sanctuary has applied for planning permission to build a new shelter at its main Sidmouth site.
The charity says the proposal ‘will improve conditions for all; donkeys, staff and visitors alike’.
The new building will replace one of the three shelters on the paddock for miniature donkeys next to the visitor car park, and will be used for the donkeys to sleep, feed and drink in. The visitor paths surrounding the paddock will not be affected by the scheme.
The Donkey Sanctuary says the new shelter will greatly improve on the current provision for donkeys in the paddock and will also give staff easier access for delivering and storing goods.
There will be some landscaping works to the site to benefit the donkeys and allow visitors better accessibility and views of them.
The application will be determined by East Devon District Council.
