A free illustrated talk on the activities of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines in Hong Kong between 1839 and 1997 will take place in Sidmouth on Friday, February 16.
It will be presented by Jim Walker of the Sidmouth Royal Naval Old Comrades Association (RNOCA), who served with the Hong Kong Police between 1989 and 2017.
He will be illustrating his talk with a collection of rare photos.
They include a picture showing the Hong Kong flag being lowered on June 30 1997 as the former colony was officially handed over from the United Kingdom to the People's Republic of China, ending 156 years of British rule.
Jim said he will be pleased to share his research, knowledge and photographs in what he hopes will be a very ‘visual’ talk.
It will take place at Sidmouth Rugby Club from 7pm until 9pm. The bar will be open from 6.30pm.
Although there is no charge for attending the talk, donations to the RNOCA will be welcome.
