Donkeys living at a sanctuary near Sidmouth have been enjoying some festive enrichment in the run-up to Christmas Day.
Staff at The Donkey Sanctuary have provided them with specially made Christmas wreaths to munch on this week.
The garlands were carefully crafted by staff at the sanctuary using willow, herbs and cut-up fruit and vegetables.
A Donkey Sanctuary spokesperson said: “Enrichment is very important for the resident donkeys and provides them with greater opportunities to interact with their environment, make choices and to be more mentally active.
“Enrichment also prevents boredom while the increased exercise helps to maintain a healthy weight.
“The garlands provide the donkeys with an extra special treat, although as with all novel food sources, feeding in moderation and under supervision is key, but thanks to their grooms, they have the opportunity to try something new while exhibiting their natural behaviour.”
The sanctuary's car park, walkways and play park will be open on Christmas Day between 9am and 4pm.
Its visitor centre, restaurant and gift shop will be closed
The sanctuary's usual winter opening hours are 9am until 4pm, with last entry to the car park at 3.30pm.
