Sidmouth business Ebb Tides Seaweeds has won a gold award at the Food Drink Devon awards for its latest seaweed-based beer Ladram Bay Bitter.
Ladram Bay Bitter now joins Ebb Tides' other gold-winning seaweed-based beer Danger Point Red Ale as part of its coastal beer range.
Ebb Tides Seaweeds, based at 5 Church Street, was founded by Tony Coulson.
It sells sustainably hand-harvested edible seaweeds. Ebb Tides was a dream of Tony’s for many years and was finally established in 2016.
Tony’s knowledge of seaweed and his belief in its nutritional benefits go back a long time. He’s been eating seaweeds for much of his life. Combined with 20 years of experience working in aquaculture and fisheries, as well as environmental protection, he knows his stuff.
Food Drink Devon represents a membership of food and drink producers, retailers, hospitality venues and related support businesses, dedicated to serving up the best produce from the county. They are proud to raise Devon's culinary profile and showcase the county as one where the use of fantastic Quality, Seasonal and Sustainable local produce is standard.
This year's glittering black tie awards ceremony, where the winners were announced, was held at Sandy Park, home to Premiership Rugby team, the Exeter Chiefs.
As well as the awards presentation, our guests enjoyed a drinks and canapes reception, a delicious three-course meal plus cheese and coffee, all made with produce from Food Drink Devon members. Then it was time to announce the winners for each category.
