A time capsule has been unearthed at Hartford Care’s Malden House care home in Sidmouth.
Ten years since its burial, many memories were uncovered, including a selection of newspapers from 2013, photographs of previous residents, pictures by local school children and mobile phones.
The time capsule was inscribed 'Malsdon House, time capsule, buried in 2013 to be opened in 2023.'
Residents enjoyed flicking through the time capsule, which included copies of the Sidmouth Herald from ten years ago, as well as national newspapers with front pages about Prince George, eldest son to now first in line to the throne Prince William.
Tabitha Donovan, Home Manager at Malden House, says: “It was great fun opening up the time capsule, many of our team members were present when we buried it ten years ago, so it’s brought back wonderful memories of some of our past residents.
“2013 was also the year Prince George was born, so we had copies of the national newspapers with his first photograph. It was interesting to see what the local school children thought life would be in 2023 from their pictures of the future, probably not quite as advanced as most thought – although it’s amazing how mobile phones have adapted over just ten years."
