West Hill is gearing up for a weekend of community events to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.
And, as a permanent commemoration, two throne-style seats are being installed in the village Play Park, funded by West Hill Parish Council.
The King's coronation takes place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6.
The day before the big event, on Friday, May 5, West Hill Pre-School is holding a Coronation Picnic for children, parents and staff. The pupils have been making crowns to wear at the event.
Afterwards they will join parish councillors and Primary School children and staff in the West Hill Play Park at 2.30pm for the official opening of the Coronation Storytelling Throne and two-seater children’s ‘throne’ bench. Local author Jo Earlam from Tipton St John will be there to read a story.
On Sunday, May 7 there will be a street party in School Lane for the whole village community from noon until 4pm. It’s being organised by West Hill’s Royal British Legion Club with support from various village groups. Tables and chairs are being provided by West Hill Village Hall, games are being organised by the PTFA, the RBL will hold a barbecue and there will be live music from the band Spin2.
On Monday, May 8, which is a bank holiday, West Hill's Women’s Group will deliver Coronation Cream Teas to housebound residents in the village who were unable to attend the other events. The local Arboretum Group will be leading a 90-minute guided walk around West Hill's tree-lined lanes and public footpaths.
