Organisers of Sidmouth's much-loved Easter Hot Cross Bun giveaway are appealing for donations to keep the event going in future years.
Last year the committee reported a loss of £600, and this year the cost of the Easter goodie bag contents has risen sharply.
The traditional giveway will take place as usual on Good Friday, April 7, at Bedford Lawn car park from 9am, with Sidmouth Town Band providing entertainment. If the weather is wet the event will move to All Saints Church Hall.
Rachel Perram, secretary of the Hot Cross Bun Committee, said: "We are very much looking forward to this year’s giveaway. It’s great to see all the local children collecting their Easter treat.”
But she warned that help from the Sidmouth community will be needed for future years: "The Committee used to see good donations in our collecting tins, both on the day and around the town. However since the pandemic, people don’t carry cash any more and times are hard for everyone.
"The fund is looking for financial support in order to keep going. Donations of any size will be very happily received." Anyone who can help should contact Rachel Perram on 01395 488947.
