A free support group for pregnant women and new mothers has been set up in Sidmouth.
Bumps & Babies has been created by ‘The Collective in Sidmouth’, a collaboration between Sidmouth URC, Methodist and Salvation Army churches. It takes place on Friday mornings from 10am until 11:30am at Primley URC Hall.
One of the founders, Angie Carney, said: “As a mother and grandmother, I’ve been shocked to discover that support for parents of new babies is so much more limited than it was when my children were born. From chatting with young mums at our Salvation Army toddler group I realised that support for those who wanted to breastfeed was very thinly spread. I applied for funding and now three mums have trained as breastfeeding peer supporters who are always happy to share their experience and know-how with others.”
The group has also bought a set of professional quality scales for weighing babies, thanks to two grants from Sidmouth Consolidated Charities and Sidmouth Lions.
