If you’ve been feeling sick after swimming in the sea recently, you can submit a health report to the campaign group Surfers Against Sewage.
If you have been swimming in any East Devon beaches and come out feeling unwell, submit a form to the charity who can get a better understanding of the water quality in East Devon.
The information you submit will help Surfers Against Sewage better understand the water quality in our area.
There have been several incidents in East Devon where beaches have been closed for bathers by Environment Agency due to pollution. On Wednesday (September 15) Exmouth beach was closed to swimming and bathing following reduced water quality after the heavy rain over the weekend.
Sidmouth, Seaton, Budleigh Salterton, Beer and Sandy Bay have also recently been subjected to temporary closures.
Surfers against sewage are campaigning to end sewage discharge into rivers and sea around the UK by 2030. They also hold weekly beach cleans on Exmouth seafront working in partnership with Plastic Free Exmouth to arrange weekly beach cleans to pick up litter.
The Surfers Against Sewage app with also give you daily update of when a sewage discharge is happening and will advise whether it is safe to swim in.
A spokesman for the charity said: “Despite the proven risks to people and the environment, sewage and diffuse pollution events are largely being ignored by regulators and water companies are failing to invest in improving infrastructure.
“We are calling for an end to sewage pollution to guarantee safe seas, all year round. To ensure the health and wellbeing of the public and help save the ocean.”
