SHEPHERD Dr Terry On the 22nd May 2024, aged 71 years, died at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital after a short illness. Beloved husband of Chris and father to Lucy, Tom, Pippy and Peter. Funeral service at 1.30pm on Friday 5th July at Sidmouth Parish Church. No flowers please, but donations, to Christian Aid or CLL Research at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This was with great sadness that I have learnt about the passing of Terry. I worked in Terry's team for about ten years at QinetiQ in the year 2000-2010.
Of course we know that Terry was a great scientist, he made significant contributions in Optical Science. His drive, energy and enthusiasm for scientific research was a large part of what made the work the fun and enjoyable in our team.
We did some very interesting work on microstructured fibres during our time working together leading tp many publications/patents
. Any new development would trigger long and passionate discussions, bouncing theoretical and experimental ideas to explore further.
I also remember Terry often being kind and attentive to his team members making sure that we were well and in good spirit despite sometimes issues we were facing professionally and personally.
I have left scientific research since then but I will remember Terry as the "best boss" I have had in my professional life.
I send my sincere condolences to his family.
