SVENDSEN Dr Elisabeth Doreen (née Knowles); MBE passed away peacefully on 11th May 2011, aged 81 years. An amazing Mum of Lise, Paul, Clive and Sarah, granny of nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, sister of Pat and lifelong friend of June. She was also the worlds most inspirational champion for donkeys, and formed three charities to whom she dedicated over 40 years of her life (The Donkey Sanctuary, Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys (EST), and The International Donkey Protection Trust). She was very much loved by all she touched with her warmth and kindness and will be dearly missed by family, friends, staff and supporters. She will rest among her beloved donkeys at a morning ceremony at The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth to be held on Thursday 26th May from 9.30am until 1.30pm for anyone who would like to say farewell. A private funeral service will follow for family only in Ottery St Mary. Flowers are welcomed at The Donkey Sanctuary and donations, if desired, to benefit EST Belfasts new Sensory Trail Ride for children with special needs and The Donkey Sanctuary.
