COWAN. Eric Charles. Brigadier General retired. Born in Ottawa in 1921, the son of Alex and Frances (nee Milner) Cowan, Eric passed away peacefully at home in Ottawa on May 3, 2014. He served in the Canadian Active Service Force throughout WW II and in the Regular Canadian Army and Canadian Armed Forces for 32 years. He married Jean Audrey Mary Sheppard in England in 1943. Surviving are his wife, three daughters: Sally Schaefer (Arnie), of Ottawa, Susan Carmichael (Hugh), of Pickering and Pamela Cowan (Gordon Bowles), of Montreal; one brother, Philip of Houston, Texas. He had six grandchildren: Melanie Haskins (Cory), Amy Schaefer, Amanda Carmichael, Todd Carmichael (Rachel), Emilie Bowles and Kirsten Bowles. He had six great-grandchildren: Cole, Ryan, Blair and Devon Haskins, Ramona Schaefer and Ceph Carmichael. As per his wishes, friends and family are invited to gather at Kelly Funeral Home - Carling Chapel 2313 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, ON, K2B 7G3 613-828-2313 On Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please join us to share memories and honour the life of Eric - husband, father, papa extraordinaire. A private family interment of ashes will take place in Villagedale, Barrington, Nova Scotia at a later date.
