COWAN JEAN AUDREY MARY. Died peacefully in Ottawa on November, 16th, 2014. Born in Plymouth, England, May 22nd, 1924. Predeceased by her parents Ernest George and Florence Nella Sheppard and her sister Daphne Christine Porritt. Beloved wife of the late Brigadier General (retired) Eric Cowan. Cherished mother of Sally Schaefer (Arnie) of Ottawa; Susan Carmichael (Hugh) of Pickering; Pamela Cowan (Gordon Bowles) of Montreal. Adored Nana of Melanie Haskins (Cory), Amy Schaefer, Amanda Carmichael, Todd Carmichael (Rachel), Emilie Bowles and Kirsten Bowles. Nantoo of six great-grandchildren: Cole, Ryan, Blair and Devon Haskins, Ramona Schaefer and Ceph Carmichael. Following a wartime marriage to Eric in 1943 she immigrated to Canada, arriving on the Queen Mary in June of 1946. Military life took them many different places while raising their family. In 1956, they built a family cottage in Villagedale, Nova Scotia, a place where family and friends gather every summer and where many happy memories have been and continue to be made. Their ashes will be interred in a family plot at Villagedale cemetery in the summer of 2015. Arrangements in care of Kelly Funeral Home – Carling Chapel, 613-828-2313.Your tribute has been received.
