IRENE RUTH COTTON

My mother Irene Ruth Cotton passed away peacefully at home on the 4th of March. She is survived by me, my wife Elizabeth and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Germany, Belgium and France. A private funeral will be held on the 23rd of March in Tiverton, where she will be buried next to her husband "Billy". Mum originally came from a small town near Konigsberg in East Prussia (now Kaliningrad in Russia). Towards the end of the war she left on the last train to Berlin, before the Russian army closed in. Mum eventually came to England after marrying my Dad, who was in the British army in Germany after the war. The rest of her family ended up in what became East Germany, except for her sister who married my fathers commanding officer. They both ended up living next to each other in Deal, Kent.
